| My partner & I met via an online personals site. I think online dating
is simply a common-sense extension to newspaper personal ads, or even
to other regular was of meeting people. IMHO, composing an online ad
isnt so different from dressing up in your best outfit and going to a
bar with the intention of meeting someone... The main difference
being, you get to find out things about a potential partner you met
online *before* you wind up drunk & talking crap at them in a bar ;-)

| There seem to be a lot of cautionary tales about online dating, from
just cautionary to outright Dont use online dating sites because
theyre full of psychos! warnings, the latter of which are totally
over-the-top. A person you meet online is no more likely to be a
psycho than a person you meet in a bar (for example). As long as
youre sensible, and do commonsense things like meet a date for the
first time in a public place, its no more dangerous than regular
dating. |
