| since i usually start seeing people as friends, we split the check at
first. but when i start dating someone, it becomes a bit more complex. i
dont have any rules, and to be honest i dont think about it much. BUT,
to give a scenario... when i was in college i used to surprise my
girlfriend with a rose and then id take her out (dinner, lunch, movie,
niagara falls, toronto, etc [i lived in buffalo]). when i did that, id
pay. first off it was my idea, it was a surprise, and its kind of like a
gift. of course, shed do the same for me, and when she did, shed pay.
of course, being in college, these occasions often fell on times when we
had money, so usually the non-paying person wouldnt even have money to
offer. |
| Ellen Fein: filed for divorce, after 16 years of marriage, citing
abandonment
Ellen Fein made the announcement on the eve of her latest book Rules III -
subtitled Time-tested secrets for making your marriage work - being
released. Hundreds of advance copies have been sent out trumpeting the happy
state of Ms Feins marriage and that of her co-author, Sherri Schneider.
The publisher AOL Time Warner is now rushing out a new cover. The original
said: Ellen and Sherrie, two long-time married women themselves, know that
just because youve married the man of your dreams doesnt mean your work
has ended; good marriages dont happen by accident. It contains a chapter
on divorce that claims: It is easier to stay married than get married.
The original Rules, published in 1996, was a social phenomenon, earning the
wrath of feminists. The book argued that modern women had to relearn the art
of playing hard to get and suggested using egg-timers to limit conversations
with suitors to 10 minutes.

| Im going through a similar situation with a woman that I have
developed a sort of crush on. The difference is that I have not said
anything explicitly that has clued her in on this. Our first date
(I thought it was a date, but in retrospect, I dont even know if she
knew I am , let alone interested in her) was over brunch, and she
invited me over for a barbecue later that evening. (She lives with my
sister, who is also , and has a gf.) Then, we got together to do
karaoke, as we are both singers, and I was considering her for a spot
in my new band. Well, I was really impressed with her voice, and Im
pretty critical. After singing, we went out for a drink, and
proceeded to talk about relationships. From the way the conversation
went, I interpreted it to mean that she was not interested in me at
all, and was trying to communicate this to me in a really gentle,
though indirect, way. I was angry the whole next day. Oh! Part of
our conversation involved a discussion of how frustrat. |
| 3. DEFINITION OF RELATIONSHIP: Should said relationship proceed
past the first fix-up both parties mutually agree to use the
following terminology in describing their said dating: For the
first thirty (30) days both parties consent to say they are going
out. (This neither implies nor states any guarantee of exclusivity.)
Following the first thirty (30) days said parties may say they are
seeing somebody and may be referred to by third parties as an
item. Sixty (60) days following the commencement of the first date
either member may elect to use the terms girl/boyfriend or r
and their mutual acquaintances may refer to them as a couple. Under
no circumstances are the phrases my better half, the little
woman, the old ball and chain, or my old man/lady
acceptable.
Further, if both members of the party consent, this timetable may be
accelerated; however, if either party gets too serious and
disregards this schedule, the o. |
| Even if not, the negative reaction from some women if a man asks them out
is sufficent to make him hesitate before doing so again. I use dating
services or personal ads almost exclusively. I have _never_ found
a nice woman at work or a dance club. |
